Business Acquisition Press Release Templates

Announce a merger or acquisition with the structure journalists expect: the deal, the rationale, leadership quotes, and what changes for customers.

5 distinct templatesEdit online freeWord · PDF · Google DocsNo signup

An acquisition announcement has to satisfy several audiences at once: reporters want the deal facts, customers want reassurance, employees want clarity, and investors want the strategy. The five templates below each solve that mix from a different angle — pick the one closest to your deal and replace the bracketed placeholders.

Every template follows standard wire formatting: a headline that states the news plainly, a dateline, a summary paragraph, quotes from both sides of the table, and an About section for each company.

Use one of these templates when…

  • Your company has acquired another business, or has itself been acquired
  • Two companies are merging into a combined entity
  • You've purchased a product line, division, or key assets from another company
  • A private-equity or strategic investor has taken a controlling stake

Standard Corporate Acquisition

The classic wire-style announcement — deal, rationale, dual quotes, dual boilerplates.

Strategic Growth Story

Frames the deal as a growth-strategy milestone — best when the vision is the story.

Financial Detail

For disclosed deal terms — value, structure, advisors, and expected financial impact.

Technology & Talent

For product- or team-driven deals — the technology and people are the headline, not the price.

Local Business / Succession Sale

A warmer, community-toned template for owner-to-owner sales of established local businesses.

Writing tips for business acquisition releases

  • 1Name both companies and the deal type (acquisition, merger, asset purchase) in the first sentence — never make a reporter hunt for it.
  • 2If the purchase price is confidential, say what you can quantify instead: combined headcount, customers, revenue range, or market coverage.
  • 3Include one quote per company. The acquirer explains the strategy; the acquired company reassures its customers and team.
  • 4State explicitly what changes (and what doesn't) for existing customers — that sentence gets quoted more than any other.
  • 5Close with an About paragraph for each company, not just the buyer.

Frequently asked questions

Should we disclose the purchase price?

Only if you're required to (public companies) or it strengthens the story. Private deals commonly say "terms were not disclosed" — reporters are used to it. If the number is impressive and you're free to share it, lead with it.

Who should be quoted in an acquisition press release?

At minimum the acquiring CEO. The strongest releases pair that with a quote from the acquired company's founder or CEO — it signals a friendly deal and gives both audiences a voice they trust.

When should the announcement go out?

The moment the deal closes (or signs, if you announce signing). Coordinate with both companies' teams so employees hear it before the press does, and have the release ready to distribute the same morning.

Do we need two About sections?

Yes. Each company gets its own short boilerplate at the end. Journalists writing about the deal need background on both sides, and the acquired company's customers will be reading too.

More template types

Every template ends with an “About” paragraph. Score or generate your boilerplate before you fill it in.
