Product Launch Press Release Templates

Introduce a new product the way newsrooms expect: the problem it solves, what it does, who it's for, availability, and pricing — without the marketing fluff.

5 distinct templatesEdit online freeWord · PDF · Google DocsNo signup

A product launch release lives or dies on one question: why would anyone outside your company care? The templates below force that answer into the first paragraph — the problem, the product, and the customer — before getting into features, quotes, and availability.

Choose the variant that matches your product type. Each keeps the classic structure (headline, dateline, summary, body, quotes, boilerplate) while changing the emphasis: hard specs for tech, sensory detail for consumer goods, workflow outcomes for B2B software.

Use one of these templates when…

  • You're launching a brand-new product or app
  • You're releasing a major new version or flagship feature
  • You're entering a new product category or market
  • A limited or seasonal edition goes on sale

Standard Product Launch

The all-purpose launch announcement — problem, product, three features, quote, availability.

Tech / App Launch

For software and apps — platforms, integrations, security, and a free tier or trial front and center.

Consumer / Retail Product

For physical goods — materials, design story, where to buy, and gift-guide-friendly detail.

B2B / SaaS Major Feature

For a flagship capability added to an existing platform — workflow outcomes and customer proof.

Limited / Seasonal Edition

For drops, collaborations, and seasonal releases — scarcity, dates, and the story of the edition.

Writing tips for product launch releases

  • 1Lead with the customer problem, not the product name — "X takes three hours; [Product] does it in five minutes" beats any feature list.
  • 2Give exact availability and pricing. "Available now at $49/month" is news; "coming soon" is a tweet.
  • 3Limit yourself to the three features that matter. Link to a product page for the rest.
  • 4Use the quote for conviction or a customer result, never to restate the feature list.
  • 5Add an image: product shots measurably improve pickup rates.

Frequently asked questions

When should a launch press release go out?

The morning the product actually becomes available, ideally Tuesday–Thursday. Journalists hate covering something readers can't try yet — if you need advance coverage, that's an embargo pitch, not the public release.

Should pricing be included?

Yes, whenever you can. Price makes the story concrete and saves reporters an email. If pricing is custom, give a starting point ("plans start at $X") or say pricing is available on request.

How long should a product launch release be?

400–600 words. One paragraph of problem, one of product, three features, a quote, availability, and the boilerplate. Anything past 700 words is a blog post wearing a press release's clothes.

Can I announce a feature update with a press release?

If it changes what the product fundamentally does for customers, yes — use the B2B/SaaS feature template. Routine updates belong in release notes; wire editors reject changelog-style releases.
